French Mideast Initiative Aims at Reviving Peace Process – Envoy Vimont

Nouakchot, 19 Syawwal 1437/24 July 20163 (MINA) – France’s special envoy for the Middle East peace Pierre Vimont said Saturday an initiative launched by Paris aimed at rallying international support to revive the peace process.

Vimont, addressing a closed-door session of the preparatory Arab Foreign Ministers, said the French initiative aimed ultimately at solving the Arab-Israeli conflict.

An international conference on the Middle East peace process could be held before end of this year in order to resume the Israel-Palestinian negotiations to reach a permanent and just solution for the conflict, Vimont was quoted by KUNA as saying.

The French initiative, said Vimont, aimed at igniting a new dynamism to end the stalmate.

“The initiative aims at reminding all parties that the two-state solution is still the only solution, and that this solution, which faces some threats on the ground, should not be ignored,” he said.

He said Paris hosted a ministerial meeting on June 3, which emphasized that the two-state solution was the only mean on the basis on relevant UN resolutions and the Arab peace initiative. (T/R07/R01)
