Foreign Minister Retno Calls on Surabaya Students to Support Palestine

Surabaya, MINA – Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Lestari Priansari Marsudi telah called on students in Surabaya to provide support for the Palestinian struggle which is still in conflict with Israel.

The appeal was delivered by Retno in front of 700 students from Surabaya in the event titled Diplomacy Festival or “DiploFest” at the Garuda Mukti Hall Management Office Campus C, Airlangga University (Unair) Surabaya, Saturday, as reported by Sindonews.

Retno said, supporting Palestinian is part of the constitutional mandate. According to her, supporting the Palestinian struggle is supporting justice. “The problem of Palestine is the problem of ongoing injustice. This is a humanitarian problem, “she said.

Retno said that the Palestinian issue that is no less important is that all parties talk about respecting international law and UN Security Council resolutions. “We must take sides and support the Palestinians. There is no other choice,” she said.

Retno continued, in the eyes of the world, Indonesia is known to be good friends with many countries. The Indonesian state is not looking for enemies. So, there is a fairly thick belief in Indonesia in the eyes of the world.

One of the culmination of that belief is that Indonesia is chosen as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in June 2018. Indonesia received 144 of the 190 votes entered. With that support, Indonesia is finally trusted to sit in the seat of a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

“We are a great nation. A great nation must dare to compete with other countries. I am sure that Arek-arek Suroboyo (Surabaya people) who have very strong in patriotism and tolerance will bring Indonesia stronger and bigger,” she ended. (T/Sj/RS5)
