Cairo, 26 Jumadil Awwal 1437/06 March 2016 (MINA) – Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry will embark on a visit to Jakarta to take part in an extraordinary summit organized by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on Palestine and Al-Quds, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said.

The Egyptian top diplomat will lead the Egyptian delegation to the summit which will be held on the 6th and 7th of March, Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) reported, quoting sis.go.eg.com.

“The Egyptian participation in this important Islamic forum stresses the historical role played by Egypt to support the Palestinian issue over decades to help the Palestinian people regain their legitimate rights and build their independent state with Al Quds as its capital,” said the spokesman.

He said the summit is held after growing tension in the Palestinian territories due to continued illegal Israeli violations against the Palestinian people and the growing encroachment against the Islamic holy sites in the occupied Palestinian territories.

“These acts represent flagrant violations of international law which affirms the necessity of protecting civilians in armed disputes and bans changing the demography and facts on the ground by force,” said the spokesman.

He added that the summit will stress the need to create a new international mechanism for implementing the two-state solution relying on international legitimacy and the peace process terms of reference. (R07/R01)
