Batam, 8 Ramadan 1435/6 July 2014 (MINA) – The Batam Free Trade Zone Development and Free Port Agency (BP Batam) stated manufacturing industry in its area remains competitive. It marked by the number of new production contracts.

“Customers of manufacturing industry are still exist here,” said the chairman of BP Batam, Mustofa Widjaya, Antara reported as quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA), Sunday.

“The evidences are production of cell phones, laptops and the latest technology that done by PT Satnusa Persada joined with  several companies,” Widjaya added.

Indeed, he said, there was a decline in exports from the industry along with a shift of electronic world trend . So, the Ministry of Coordinator Economy  requested BP Batam to more focus on the development of heavy equipment industry and shipyards.

Mustofa admitted competition of manufacturing industry in Asia Pacific is getting tight. It needs specification for the development.

He said it needs special strategy to restore tspirit of manufacturing industry in Batam to win the competition with Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.

Mustofa hoped the manufacturing companies hook the bigger market due to the tight competition.

According to the president Director of PT Satnusa Persada, Abidin Hasibuan, businessmen need support from the government in order to push production costs to win the competition.

If the production costs can be pressed, then automatically leads to stronger competitiveness. (T/Syt/p04)
