Abbas Calls on Israel to End Measures in Jerusalem

Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas,

Ramallah, MINA – Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said Tuesday Israeli measures in Jerusalem should be removed and halted., KUNA reported.

At a Palestinian leadership meeting held in Ramallah this evening, Abbas warned that unless the matters were not back to pre-July 14, there would not be any change whatsoever.

“Once the matters are back to normal in Jerusalem, then we’ll resume work regarding bilateral relations,” he said.

“What we have decided is freezing security coordination and defending holy sites,” the Palestinian leader added.

Abbas pointed out that today’s meeting mainly aimed at discussing and assessing the current situation, including Israel’s ongoing security measures at Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Last week, Israel shut down Al-Aqsa Mosque, denying Palestinian worshipers access to the holy site, in the aftermath of clashes that erupted between three Palestinians and two Israelis, which resulted in killing all five.

Al-Aqsa Mosque had been closed in front of worshipers for the first time in 48 years. (T/RS5/RS1)
