Abbas to Arrive in Brussels to Hold Meetings with EU Officials

Brussels, MINA – President Mahmoud Abbas is set to arrive in Brussels, the capital of Belgium in an official visit that is scheduled to last for three days.

Abedul Rahim al-Farra, Palestine’s ambassador to Belgium said Abbas will Monday meet the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Cooperation to discuss bilateral cooperation between Belgium and Palestine, WAFA News Agency reported.

In an interview with Voice of Palestine radio, al-Farra said Abbas will meet with the EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini at the EU headquarters and will then hold a meeting with the EU’s 28 foreign ministers.

He added that Abbas will deliver an important speech to the European ministers before holding a panel discussion with them.

Abbas’ meeting with the EU’s foreign ministers in the presences of Mogherini and her staff is important, according to al-Farra. He said Abbas will brief them on the latest developments on the ground and will ask them to recognize the state of Palestine on the borders of 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Al-Farrar noted that Abbas will also discuss full partnership between Palestine and EU before meeting the Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel in order to discuss the bilateral relations between the two countries.(R/R04/RS5)
