37 Malaysian NGOs Join Forces for Campaign to Commemorate Expulsion of Palestinians

Kuala Lumpur, MINA – Thirty-seven non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have joined forces for a campaign to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Nakbah Day, also known as as the Palestinian expulsion, on May 15.

Nakbah Commemoration 2018 Secretariat spokesman Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid said the campaign, to be held at all mosques nationwide, would serve as a sign of solidarity for Palestinians and for the liberation of the country from Israel.

“We have agreed to conduct activities that serve as a platform towards ensuring that Palestinian´s wish to have their own country becomes a reality,” Bernama reported, quoting Abdul Hamid at a press conference at Universiti Malaya here Tuesday.

Mohd Azmi, who is also Malaysian Consultative Council for Islamic Organisations (Mapim) president, said the participating NGOs also planned to hold a peaceful gathering at the United States Embassy here on May 11 after Friday prayers.

“We have also agreed to hold a series of talks, forums, gatherings for Palestine and the collection of signatures of Members of Parliaments before submitting a memorandum to the US Embassy,” he said. (T/RS5/RS1)
