1,500 Moroccans Go On Hunger Strike in Solidarity with Palestinian Prisoners

Rabat, 1 Sha’ban 1438/9 May 2014 (MINA – More than 1,500 Moroccan activists have started a hunger strike in Rabat in solidarity with Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails who started a collective hunger on 17 April, MEMO Reported.

The Moroccan Coalition for Palestine and Anti-normalisation with Israel said in a statement yesterday that 1,500 Moroccan activists in more than 50 cities have started a hunger strike for 24 hours in solidarity with Palestinian prisoners.

The activists staged their strike in the Moroccan Association for Human Rights where they raised Palestinian flags and photographs of some of the Palestinian detainees.

Several non-governmental organisations participated in the strike including the National Action Group for Palestine, the Moroccan Observatory Against Normalisation with Israel and the Moroccan Support and Advocacy Initiative.

On Wednesday, the committee of prisoners of the national and Islamic forces in Gaza announced that 50 Palestinian leaders of Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Popular Front and the Democratic Front who are detained in Israeli jails joined the strike.

Hundreds of Palestinian prisoners led by Fatah Central Committee member Marwan Barghouthi began an open hunger strike on Palestinian Prisoners’ Day to protest against their detention conditions. (T/RS5/RS1)
